anatomical terminology

anatomical position facing forward with palms facing forward
prone position lying face down
supine position lying face up
anterior vs posterior anterior = near front of body posterior = back of body
superior vs inferior superior = up (towards head) interior = down (away from head)
superficial vs deep superficial = surface deep = within the body
dorsal and posterior vs ventral and anterior dorsal and posterior = back of body ventral and anterior = front of body
medial vs lateral medial = near middle lateral = farther from middle
proximal vs distal proximal = nearer to the attachment of the limb distal = farther from the attachment point
