Scientific Investigation
| Term | Definition |

| Scientific Investigation | A plan for asking questions and testing possible answers. |
| Research | The systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. |
| Observation | The action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information. |
| Inference | A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. |
| Hypothesis | A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation |
| Experiment | A scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact. |
| Independent Variable | A variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure. |
| Dependent Variable | A variable whose value depends upon independent variables. |
| Controlled Variable | Any variable that's held constant in a research study. |
| Control | The power to influence or direct people's behavior or the course of events. |
| Data | The quantities, characters, or symbols on which operations are performed by a computer, being stored and transmitted in the form of electrical signals and recorded on magnetic, optical, or mechanical recording media. |
| Conclusion | The end or finish of an event or process |
| Analyze | Examine methodically and in detail the constitution or structure of (something, especially information), typically for purposes of explanation and interpretation |
