Attenuate Turn down or lower the level
Automation Changes to parameters such as gain and pan that a system can record and play in synchronization with the timeline of a project
Balance The distribution of frequencies across the audio spectrum
Collisions (Also referred to as Masking) minimized audibility of a signal caused by the presence of similar frequencies in another simultaneously-occurring sound (e.g. a bass guitar with an abundance of 50 to 70 Hz may mask a kick with a fundamental of 60 Hz)
Compression An effect that reduces the overall dynamic range of a piece of audio in order to narrow the difference between the loudest and softest parts of a track so that it’s more consistent in level.
Comping Refers to creating a composite track. A composite track is made by taking the best/select sections from various takes (recordings) of an instrument and assembling them into a single track.
DAW An acronym that refers to a Digital Audio Workstation
Delay A processor that creates copies of a sound source that repeat over and over, fading slowly.
Depth Differentiation between close and distant sounds
Dynamics The loud and soft points of a sound. The higher the range, the more difference there is between the loudest point and the softest point.
Equalization (EQ) Refers to both a sound processor that can alter frequencies and the process of adjusting the frequency spectrum to even out or alter tonal imbalances.
Expanders An effect that expands the dynamic range in a piece of audio. Louder and quieter parts become relatively louder and quieter respectively.

High Pass A filter that reduces low frequencies but allows high frequencies to pass through unaffected
Low Pass A filter that reduces high frequencies at a set decibel per octave value, but allows low frequencies to pass through unaffected
