The Cell

TermDefinition
Sensivity An organism responds to changes in it's surroundings
Reproduction The ability to produce new cells and therefore a new organism
Respiration The ability to take in oxygen and release energy
Movement The ability of an organism to move all parts of its structure
Nutrition Is how a living organism obtains food
Growth The increase in size of an organism
Excretion Removal of waste from a cell and from the organism
Vertebrates Animals with backbones
Invertebrate Animals without a backbone
Cell Is the smallest working unit of a living organism
Organelles Are small structures in the cell that is surrounded by a membrane and has a specific function
Nucleus Carries DNA and controls the inside of cell
Mitochondrion Releases energy from nutrients
Cell membrane Controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell
Cytoplasm Is a jelly-like substance where chemical reactions happen
The vacuole Contains a liquid called cell sap that stores food and keep the cell firm
Chloroplast Is where the plant makes food using a called photosynthesis- contains chlorophyll
Cell wall Is made of a tough substance called cellulose, which supports the cell
Unicellur Living things made up of only one cell
Multicellur Living things made up of many different types of cells
Tissue Is a group of similar cells working together
Organ Is a group of different tissues working together
System Is a group of different organs working together
Organisms Are living things made up of many systems
