| Natural Resource | Any resource that occurs in nature |
| Renewable Resource | Any resource that is replaced in a short amount of time |
| Nonrenewable resource | Any resource that is limited and does not replace itself |
| Deforestation | Cutting trees for human use |
| Desertification | Making land that was once fertile more desert like |
| Erosion | When natural forces move soil and rock particles |
| Sustainable use | using a resource in a way that maintains it for future generations |
| Pollution | Contaminating the earth's land, air, or water |
| Point source | A source of pollution that you can "point at" or identify |
| Nonpoint source | A source of pollution that you cannot point at |
| Ozone | An oxygen molecule containing three oxygen atoms (toxic to humans) |
| Acid Rain | When precipitation is more acidic than normal |
| Emission | Any pollutants released into the air |
| Sewage | Water and human wastes washed down sinks, showers, and toilets |
| Sediment | Small particles of rocks and sand |
| Thermal Pollution | When heat negatively impacts bodies of water |
