| Term | Definition |

| Heredity | Passing of traits from parents to offspring |
| Dominant trait | a trait that will show up most often, always covers up any other trait if presents |
| Recessive trait | the trait that will not show up most often, will be covered up if dominant trait is present |
| Gene | the genetic instructions for a specific trait |
| Allele | Different forms of a gene, can be dominant or recessive |
| Homozygous | An organism that has two identical alleles for a trait, means the same as purebred |
| Phenotype | An organism's physical appearance, or visible traits. |
| Probability | The possibility that an event will occur in the future |
| Purebred | An organism that always produces offspring with the same form of a trait as the parent, has the same genes for a trait (homozygous) |
| Hybrid | An organism that has two different alleles (genes) for a trait, also called heterozygous |
| Heterozygous | having two different alleles for a trait, means the same as hybrid |
| Genotype | An organism's genetic makeup, tells exactly what the gene structure is |
