Unit 5: The Solar System: The Planets
Term | Definition |

mode | A limited representation of something that can help us understand its structure or how it works. |
orbit | The path one object takes as it revolves around another object in space. |
planet | Any of the large celestial bodies (objects) that revolve around the Sun in the Solar System |
position | Where an object is located |
limitations | A restriction or weakness |
moon | A natural satellite (object) that orbits a planet |
inner planets | Smallest planets closest to the sun, made of rocks, and inside the asteroid belt. |
outer planets | The largest planets made of gas and outside the asteroid belt. |
asteroid belt | A torus-shaped (donut shape) region in the Solar System made of rocks and is between Mars and Jupiter. |
Solar System | The Sun and the planets (objects) that move around the Sun. |
Rotate/Rotation | Moves in a circle on an axis....spins in one place. |
Revolve/Revolution | One complete circle (orbits) made by a planet or satellite (moons) around another object. |
