What are the Earth Sciences? Geology (study of the earth); Oceanography (study of all water); Meteorology (study of atmosphere and weather); Astronomy (study of universe)
What is the Nebular Theory? The solar system formed from an enormous rotating cloud of stellar gases that started collapsing under its own gravity. Dust and gas began clumping together, forming smaller bodies called planets.
What are the Earth's spheres? Hydrosphere (water portion of planet); Atmosphere (gaseous portion of planet); Biosphere (all life on Earth); Geosphere (solid Earth, biggest sphere);
Describe Earth as a system. It is dynamic (constantly changing), made of numerous interacting parts, a closed planet (limited space, resources and deals with own waste), and gets energy from sun and core.
What forces shape our planet? Destructive forces break down planet (weathering, erosion) and constructive forces build up mountains (mountain building, volcanism)
What are the projections? Mercator, Robinson, Interrupted, Conic, Gnonomic, and Orthographic.
How do you find the gradient on a topographic map? The relief (change in elevation) divided by the distance (need units.)
