How do you find a secondary leading tone chord? Always a half step down from the key being tonicized no matter if dim. or half dim.
What are CRKs? Closely related keys are keys with one more or one less flat or sharp than the home key
What is the difference between modulation and tonicization? Tonicization is just briefly tonicizing a key, whereas modulation is a movement to a different key for a longer period of time
What should you remember when part writing? Be careful of parallels between all parts and always resolve your sevenths and your leading tones
What is the difference between binary and ternary form? Binary's B and A' sections repeat together, whereas ternary's B and A' section repeat separately
What is the difference between simple and rounded binary? Simple has only an A and B section and rounded has an A, B, and A' section
What is the difference between sectional and continuous binary? Sectional binary has an AC at the end of the A section, and continuous binary has a non-tonic cadence at the end of the A section (Same rules apply for ternary, except cadences are at the end of the B section)
What is balanced binary? A simple continuous binary
What is full sectional ternary? When all sections land on an AC, you have a full sectional ternary
What is ponte? A dominant pedal
What is monte? An ascending 2nd sequence
What is fonte? A descending 2nd sequence
What does a i chord spell in major? Do Me Sol
What does a ii half dim. seventh chord spell in major? Re Fa Le Do
What does a flat III chord spell in major? Me Sol Te
What does a iv chord spell in major? Fa Le Do
What does a flat VI chord spell in major? Le Do Me
What does a flat VII chord spell in major? Te Re Fa
What does a vii fully dim. seventh chord spell in major? Ti Re Fa Le
What does a N6 chord spell as? Fa Le Ra (Double Fa when part-writing)
What do you resolve in a N6 chord? Ra to Ti and Le to Sol
How do you spell an It+6 chord? Le Do Fi (Double Do when part-writing)
How do you spell a Fr+6 chord? Le Do Re Fi
How do you spell a Ger+6 chord? Le Do Me Fi (Must resolve through a Cad. 6/4)
How do you modulate using a Ger+6 chord? Respell it, Fi to Se or vice versa
What are the common pivot chords for a modulation from I to flat III? iv-ii and i-vi
What are the common pivot chords for a modulation from I to flat VI? iv-vi, flat II-IV, and i-iii
