Science Chapter 19 Question 9: Human impact on each Biome.
| Biome | Human Impact |
|---|---|
| Desert | Humans damage plants and the plants take many years to recover and regrow. |
| Grassland | People plow areas to raise cereal crops, which reduces the habitat for wild species. |
| Tropical RainForest | People have cleared more than half of its land. |
| Temperate RainForest | Logging destroys the habitat of forest species. |
| Temperate Deciduous Forest | Humans have cleared thousands of acres. |
| Taiga | Tree harvesting reduces the habitat. |
| Tundra | Drilling for oil and gas interrupts migration patterns. |
| Streams and Rivers | People take the water from these places for many of their own uses. |
| Ponds and Lakes | Humans fill them with sediments to create land for houses and other structures. |
| Wetlands | Water is drained away to build homes and roads and to raise crops. |
| Estuaries | Destruction from humans exposes the coastline to flooding and storm damage. |
| Open Ocean | Over fishing threatens ocean fish. |
| Coastal Ocean | Oil spills harm coastal organisms. |
| Coral Reef | Pollution, over fishing, and coral harvesting threatens this biome. |
