Science Chapter 19 Question 9: Human impact on each Biome.

BiomeHuman Impact
Desert Humans damage plants and the plants take many years to recover and regrow.
Grassland People plow areas to raise cereal crops, which reduces the habitat for wild species.
Tropical RainForest People have cleared more than half of its land.
Temperate RainForest Logging destroys the habitat of forest species.
Temperate Deciduous Forest Humans have cleared thousands of acres.
Taiga Tree harvesting reduces the habitat.
Tundra Drilling for oil and gas interrupts migration patterns.
Streams and Rivers People take the water from these places for many of their own uses.
Ponds and Lakes Humans fill them with sediments to create land for houses and other structures.
Wetlands Water is drained away to build homes and roads and to raise crops.
Estuaries Destruction from humans exposes the coastline to flooding and storm damage.
Open Ocean Over fishing threatens ocean fish.
Coastal Ocean Oil spills harm coastal organisms.
Coral Reef Pollution, over fishing, and coral harvesting threatens this biome.
