QuestionAnswer
What is succession? Describe primary successions and secondary succession. Succession is one thing changing into another. Primary succession has little or no soil. Secondary succession is when the land grows back and there is soil.
How is a land ecosystem formed? Sediments and decaying organisms build up and create soil. The soil fills the bottom of the pond or lake. Eventually the pond or lake fills completely with soil and a land ecosystem is formed.
What aquatic biome protects coastlines from flooding and storm damage? Estuary
Describe the Dark Zone. There is no sunlight, and is the deepest and darkest zone.
Describe the Intertidal Zone. The ocean shore between the lowest tide and highest tide, the shoreline.
Describe the Sunlight Zone. Lots of sunlight, Photosynthesis takes place, and the upmost zone.
Describe the Twilight Zone. Very little sunlight, and is the middle zone.
Where would Photosynthesis most likely take place in the marine environment? Sunlit Zone
What are the differences between Saltwater and Freshwater? List three or more. Saltwater has salt Saltwater has a higher salinity Saltwater is denser Saltwater has more buoyancy
Describe how a fish takes in oxygen. The gills diffuse and separate oxygen from the water and move it into the bloodstream of the fish. Carbon Dioxide diffuses out and leaves the body.
What is Eutrophication? The process of a body of water becoming Nutrient-Rich.
List all sixteen biomes. Desert, Grassland, Tropical Rain Forest, Temperate Rain Forest, Temperate Deciduous Forest, Taiga, Tundra, Streams, Rivers, Ponds, Lakes, Wetland, Estuary, Open Ocean, Coastal Ocean, Coral Reef.
