Life Kingdom Domain vocabulary

Unicellular Having or consisting of one cell
Multicellular Having or consisting of many cells
Cell Wall a rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms. It functions to protect and support the cell. Plant cell only
Cell Membrane located just inside the cell wall on plant cells or is the outermost layer on an animal cell. Its function is to control what enters and leaves the cell.
Cytoplasm the region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It is a clear, thick, gel-like fluid that is constantly moving
Vacuole A round water-filled sac. This sac is the storage area of the cell. They store food and other material needed by the cell. They can also store waste products.
DNA deoxyribonucleic acid A nucleic acid that carries the genetic information in the cell
Flagella A long, threadlike appendage, especially a whip like extension of certain cells or unicellular organisms that functions as an organ of locomotion
Organ A group of tissues that perform a specialized function
Tissue a group of cells tat performs as specialized function.
Fungi: a taxonomic kingdom, comprising all the fungus groups and sometimes also the slime molds.
Organ System: is a group of organs that perform a complex function
Plantea: the taxonomic kingdom comprising all plants
Animalia: taxonomic kingdom comprising all living or extinct animals
Animalia: taxonomic kingdom comprising all living or extinct animals
Protista: a taxonomic kingdom consiting of the protists (unicellular and multicellular organisms)
Nucleus: large oval structure that acts as the control center, directing all of the cell's activity.
