botulism: form gram positive, obligate anaerobe, club shaped bacilli
botulism blocks release acetylcholine needed to transmit nerve impulses, relaxes muscle
symptoms of botulism nausea, blurred vision, difficulty swallowing
tetanus: type clostridium tetani
tetanus: form gram positive, obligate anaerobe, club shaped bacilli
tetnanus: toxicity highly toxic, blocks relaxation pathways of muscles so they remain contracted, starts with jaw
tetanus: death death results from spasms of respiratory muscles, vaccine is 100% effective
leprosy: type mycobacterium leprae, related to tuberculosis
leprosy: form doesn't gram stain, aerobic
leprosy: infection skin cells, lives in nerves, causes sensory loss in skin, easy to injure self, lesions on skin
leprosy: death usually results from complications like infections, 200 cases in the US yearly, treat with sulpha drug
