Microspheres Protein molecules organized as a membrane
Coacervates Collection of droplets that are composed of lipids, amino acids, and sugars
Ribozymes A type of RNA that acts as a chemical catalyst
Plate Tectonics A strong geological theory that studies the global distribution of Continental Drift, Seafloor Spreading, and the Folding and Faulting of the Earth’s Crust
Continental Drift Came from the seafloor rather than the continents themselves
Seafloor Spreading A theory that the seafloor is being created by volcanic eruptions and that this erupted material continuously spreads out, creating the ocean basin
Igneous Rocks When magma cools and hardens
Sedimentary Rocks When sediments have been pressed and cemented together
Metamorphic Rocks When an existing rock changes due to a tremendous amount of heat, pressure, and chemical reactions.
Fossils The remains of an organism that died long ago
Superposition A principle that states that younger, newer rocks lie above older rocks
Relative Age Comparing one fossil to that of other aged fossils
Absolute Age The numeric age of a fossil
Biogeography The study of geographical distribution of fossils and living organisms around the world
Extinction The death of every member of a species, causing it to die out
Biogenesis The origin of life
