Plant Structure and Functions

Dispersal Spread out *ways seeds travel (Water, wind, animals, humans)
Fertilization The process when male and female reproductive parts join together
Function different purpose or job of plant/animal parts (thorns-protect plants)
Leaf The part of a plant that makes food using air, light, and water
Nutrient A material used by living things for growth and other functions
Photosynthesis The process in which plants make food. They use water from the soil, carbon dioxide from the air, and energy from sunlight.
Pollination The transfer of pollen in flowers or cones
Reproduction To have young, or more living things of the same kind
Root A plant part that is usually underground and absorbs water and minerals from the soil
Seed The part of a plant that contains a new plant
Spore A reproductive structure of some plants, such as mosses and ferns, that can form a new plant
Stem The part of a plant that holds it up and has tubes that carry water, minerals, and nutrients through the plant
Structure Parts of plant/animal that help it survive
