| Petrochemicals | Chemicals obtained by refining crude oil |
| Oil Sand | A mixture of clay, sand, water, and a combustible organic material (a thick, sticky, heavy oil) |
| Shale Oil | Heavy oil obtained when kerogen in oil shale is vaporized at high temperatures and then condensed |
| Liquefied Petroleum Gas | When propane and butane gases are liquefied and removed from a natural gas field |
| Liquefied Natural Gas | Natural gas converted to a liquid form by cooling it to a very low temperature |
| Coal | A solid fossil fuel that was formed in several stages out of the remains of land plants and subjected to intense heat and pressure over millions of years |
| Synthetic Natural Gas | Gaseous fuel containing mostly methane produced from solid coal |
| Nuclear Fusion | A nuclear change in which two isotopes of light elements, such as hydrogen, are forced together at extremely high temperatures until they fuse to form a heavier nucleus, releasing energy in the process |
