Ellipse orbit of an object under gravity which resemble an elongated circle
Eccentric a measure of the flatness of an ellipse
Conjunction planets that are in the same direction as the Sun in the sky
Opposition planets that are opposite of the Sun's direction in the sky
Aphelion the furthest an object gets from the Sun in its orbit
Perihelion the closest an object gets to the Sun in its orbit
Polar Cap region of ice or other frozen matter surrounding a pole of a planet
Seasons changes in average temperature and day length due to the tilt of a planet's rotational axis
Erosion removes soil, rock, or dissolved material from one location and transports it to another
Martian Plains smoother, younger, and less cratered northern hemisphere
Martian Highlands rougher, older, and more cratered southern hemisphere
Tharsis Bulge most intensely and most recently active volcanic region on Mars
Valles Marineris the largest canyon system in the solar system, found on Mars
Olympus Mons largest shield volcano in the solar system, found on Mars
Caldera crater that forms at the summit of a volcano
Runoff Channel river-like surface feature, evidence that abundant liquid water once existed on Mars
Outflow Channel surface features on Mars believed to be relics of catastrophic flooding
River Delta landform created by the deposition of sediment carried by a river as it enters slower-moving or stagnant water
