randomized controlled study (RTC) cause and effect relationship using a control group and experimental group
Validity the degree to which the study measure what it intended to measure
reliability study's ability yo produce consistent results with each use
usefulness reflective of the study's application to clinical practice
Nuclear Family Two parents and offspring
Extended Family Relatives of nuclear family

clear boundaries create an environment in which people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings
rigid boundaries the one that attempts to hold on to all of it's members without allowing any outsiders in or out
diffuse boundaries there is little independence between family members
authoritarian - do what I say - set firm limits that cant be questioned - child will not get to understand why something is wrong or how it affect others
authoritative - set rules and firm limits that are reasonable - allow for discussion why something is wrong so child will have a clear understanding - can discuss with parents about their opinions and feelings - allow child to develop a sense of responsibility
Permissive - great deal of warmth and have few controls - "best friend parent" - child end up controlling the parent - child regulate own behavior
Indifferent - "do what you want just don't get in trouble, actually I don't care"
discipline method for teaching children the rules for how to behave in society and what is expected in different circumstances
punishment the action taken to enforce the rules when the child misbehaves
Serous clear, straw colored with a thin watery consistency
purulent opaque or milky, indicated presence of infection, made up of large quantities of cells and debris

Conduction heat transfer through physical contact of one surface to another surface, e.g. a warm body being cooled by a cool surface
Convection heat transfer through the fluid motion of air or water across the skin, e.g. a warm body being cooled by immersion in a cool liquid
Radiation heat transfer with no physical contact, e.g. warming by sun
Evaporation process of converting water to a vapor, e.g. evaporation of sweat
