Taiga/Boreal Forest - short moist summers & cold, long, dry winters - slender, cone shape trees with needles that conserve water - many animals hibernate
Grasslands - summers are hot; winters are cold - narrow leaves & minimized water loss - very fertile soil - animals use camouflage and have special digestive systems
Tundra - very cold & dry - plants have fuzzy, hairy coating to trap heat - frozen layer of soil, permafrost - animals have thicker fur and feathers
Desert - very dry - plants have water conservation - animals have the absence of sweat glands to conserve water
Temperate Forest - broad-leaved deciduous trees - four well defined seasons - plants have flat leaves that capture sunlight & shed in the winter - birds migrate in the winter
Tropical Rainforest - humid all year - tree trunks allow trees to reach sunlight - the soil is not very fertile with very little nutrients - animals have limited diet to avoid competition and are poisonous
Tropical Savanna - summers are hot & rainy & rainy; winters are cool & dry - plants have thick bark to resist annual trees - animals migrate & hibernate when the dry season is over -
