science vocab for test Fri 11/11/22

TermDefinition
atom the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element.
compound a substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds.
element a substance that cannot be seperated or broken down into smaller substances by chemical means.
heterogeneous describes something that does not have a uniform structure or composition throughout.
homogeneous describes something that does have a uniform structure or composition throughout.
mixture a combonation of two or more substances that are not chemically combined.
pure substance a sample of matter, either a single element or a single compound, that has definite physical or chemical properties.
