weather part 1 Vocab

TermDefinition
Mesosphere middle layer of atmosphere 51-85 km. The coldest layer this is where meteors burn up.
Air Pressure the measure of the force with which air molecules push on a surface.
altitude elevation ( height) above sea level
Troposphere lowest layer of earth's atmosphere 0-17 km above Earth's surface> site of weather, organisms ,contains most atmospheric water vapor
Stratosphere 2nd layer of atmosphere. extends from 10 to 30 miles up. The location of ozone layer absorbs 95% of Ultraviolet radiation. tempretures increases with altitude increase.
Mesosphere middle layer of atmosphere 51-85 km. The coldest layer this is where meteors burn up.
Thermosphere the fourth layer of the atmosphere, in which temperture increases as altitude increase
Air Pressure the measure of the force with which air molecules push on a surface.
Exosphere the outer layer of the thermosphere, extending outward into space.
altitude elevation ( height) above sea level
Atmospheric gases nitrogen makes up 78% 21% oxygen and remaining 1% is carbon dioxide, water vapor and other gases.
Troposphere lowest layer of earth's atmosphere 0-17 km above Earth's surface> site of weather, organisms ,contains most atmospheric water vapor
Nitrogen most audant
Stratosphere 2nd layer of atmosphere. extends from 10 to 30 miles up. The location of ozone layer absorbs 95% of Ultraviolet radiation. tempretures increases with altitude increase.
Thermosphere the fourth layer of the atmosphere, in which temperture increases as altitude increase
Exosphere the outer layer of the thermosphere, extending outward into space.
Atmospheric gases nitrogen makes up 78% 21% oxygen and remaining 1% is carbon dioxide, water vapor and other gases.
Nitrogen most abundant gas in the atmosphere(78%)
Oxygen 02 gas that makes up 21% of the air in earths atmosphere. It passes into the bloodstream at the lungs and travels to all body cells.
Carbon dioxide C02 A green house gas. a gas that radiates and absorbs heat
Trace Gases gasses such as hydrogen, helium, carbon dioxide and argon that exsists in very small quantaties in the the atmosphere. gasses that make up less than 1 percent of earths atmosphere.
water Vapor water in the foem of a gas
Fossil Fuels natural substance formed from the buried remains of acient organisms that can be used as a source of energy
Greenhouse gasses Gasses in earths atmosphere that trap heat near the surface
Water cycle the continues process by which water moves from the earth's surface to the atmosphere and back.
Evaporation the change of a substance from liquid to gas
Condisation change from gas to liquid
precipitation any form of water that falls from the clouds and reaches earths surface(rain, snow , hail, sleet, mist)
transpiratation evaporation of water from the leaves of a plant
crystallization the process of which the substance becomes a solid, sort of like freezing
surface runoff water that flows over land until it reaches lakes, rivers, or other areas

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
