Meteoroid Impact common event on the Moon and Mercury where there is virtually no atmosphere
Regolith surface dust on the Moon caused by billions of years of bombardment (impacts)
Micrometeoroid small chunk of interplanetary debris ranging in size from a dust particle to a pebble
Microcraters submillimeter sized craters produced by the high-velocity impact of cosmic dust particles
Rille dry channel on the surface of the Moon where molten lava flowed in the past
Crater Chain line of craters along the surface of an astronomical body from interplanetary debris breaking apart before impact
Intercrater Plains regions on Mercury that do not show extensive cratering but are relatively smooth
Scarp feature on Mercury from cooling and shrinking of the crust forming a wrinkle on the surface
Orientale Basin large multi-ringed impact basin/mare on the Moon
Caloris Basin one of the largest impact basins in the solar system, found on Mercury
Volcanism eruption of molten material onto the surface of the Earth, other solid-surface planet, or moon
Co-Formation Theory proposes that the Moon formed in orbit around Earth at the same time as the Earth
Capture Theory suggests that the Moon formed elsewhere in the solar system and was captured by Earth's gravity
Fission Theory proposes that the Moon somehow separated (split off) from the Earth
Giant Impact Theory suggests that the Moon formed from the ejecta of a collision between the proto-Earth and a Mars-sized planetesimal
