| what does birth rate mean? | new individuals are born |
| what does death rate mean? | individuals dying out |
| what does emigration mean? | individuals moving out of a population |
| what does immigration mean? | individuals moving into a population |
| what can too small of a population mean? | extinction and inbreeding |
| what does geographic range mean? | the area inhabited by a population |
| what does age structure mean? | the number of males and females of each age |
| what does population density mean? | number if individuals in a given area (# of individuals / area) |
| what happens if there are too few individuals? | less chance of reproduction, less chance of sustaining a population or growing |
| how can individuals be arranged in an area? | clustered, evenly spread, random |
| what are some factors of exponential growth? | unlimited resources, fast rapid growth, a J-shape |
| what are some factors of logistic growth? | carrying capacity is met, s-shaped, determined by resources |
| what does limited factors mean? | resources that are limiting a population growth |
| what are density dependent factors? | when a population reaches a certain level these factors can limit the population |
| what are density independent factors? | affects a population regardless of density |
| what are some examples of density dependent factors? | food, shelter, water, disease |
| what are some examples of density independent factors? | weather, rain, drought, fire |
