Biology test 3

QuestionAnswer
What is the scientific structure of something? How something is built.
What is the scientific function of something? The job that the thing does.
Are all eukaryotic cells the same? No. Even plant and animal cells have different parts.
What is the function of the cell membrane? Protects and regulates what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the function of the golgi complex (golgi body/golgi apparatus)? Modifies, packages, and distributes lipids and proteins.
What is the function of DNA? Source of genetic information for cells. Tell the cells what to do.
What is the function of the nucleus? Regulates cell activity by sending DNA to parts that need it.
What is the function of the cytoskeleton? Give shape/support to the cell and help with cell division/ movement.
What is the function of mitochondria? Breaks down food to make energy in cellular respiration.
What is the function of ribosomes? Make proteins.
What is the function of the lysosome? Break down worn out organelles, releasing digestive enzymes.
What is the function of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER)? Make lipids and break down toxic materials.
What is the function of the cytoplasm? Holds organelles in place.
What is the function of the rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER)? Make proteins.
What is the purpose of the cell wall? Provides additional protection/support in a plant cell.
What is the function of the chloroplasts? Absorbs energy in sunlight and converts it to sugar.
What is the function of the large central vacuole? Stores water.
What is the function of a regular vacuole? Process waste materials.
Which cell part is a regular vacuole most like? Lysosome.
Why doesn't an animal cell need chloroplasts? Animal cells don't photosynthesize.
Why doesn't an animal cell need a large central vacuole? Animal cells don't need to store water because animals can drink.
Which of these parts is only in an animal cell? Lysosome.
What are the small cell parts located ON the rough ER? Ribosomes
Do all cells in plants have the same parts in them? No- for example, there are no chloroplasts in root cells.
What did mitochondria come from? Aerobic bacteria.
What did chloroplast come from? Cyanobacteria.
Is a cell wall porous or semi permeable (selectively permeable)? Porous.
Is a cell membrane porous or semi permeable (selectively permeable)? Semi permeable.
Why is the cell membrane called a fluid matrix? It is made of different sized pieces that are put together and make a moving structure.
What cells have a cell wall? Prokaryotes and plant cells.
What cells have a cell membrane? Prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
What cells have ribosomes? Prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
What cells have a nucleus? Eukaryotes.
What cells have vacuoles? Eukaryotes.
What cells have vesicles? Eukaryotes
What cells have lysosomes? Eukaryotes
What cells have a large central vacuole? Plant cells only.
What cells have a cytoskeleton? Prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
What cells have a rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER)? Eukaryotes
Which cells have a smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER)? Eukaryotes
Which cells have a golgi apparatus? Eukaryotes
How do prokaryotes and eukaryotes reproduce? Binary fission.
What internal cell structures does a PROKARYOTE have? Cell wall, cell membrane, ribosomes, and cytoplasm.
What internal cell structures does a EUKARYOTE PLANT CELL have? Cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes, nucleus, nucleolus, vacuoles, a large central vacuole, chloroplasts, golgi apparatus, rough er, smooth er, lysosomes, mitochondria, and vesicles.
What internal cell structures does a EUKARYOTIC ANIMAL CELL have? Cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes, nucleus, nucleolus, vacuoles, vesicles, microtubules, lysosomes, mitochondria, golgi apparatus, smooth er, and rough er.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
