Ethics

QuestionAnswer
What is beneficence? The obligation of health care providers to help people in need.
What is nonmaleficence? The duty of health care providers to do no harm.
What is autonomy? The right of patients to make choices regarding their health care.
What is justice? The concept of treating everyone in a fair manner.
What is distributive justice? The concept of allocation of benefits and burdens in society.
What is rationing? A conscious policy of equitably distributing needed resources that are in limited supply.
Macroallocation The amount and distribution of resources within an entire society.
Microallocation Resource constraints at the level of an individual provider or institution.
Ethical Dilemma Situations where a provider is forced to make a decision that violates one of the principles of ethics.
