| isostasy | Equilibrium between crust and mantle layers. |
| Subsidence | vertical downward motion of Earth's service |
| Uplift | upwards vertical motion of Earth's service |
| Compression | Squeezing stress |
| Tension | Stress that puls something apart |
| Shear | Parallel forces acting in opposite directions |
| Strain | change in shape of rock induced by stress |
| Ocean Trenches | deep underwater troughs created by one plate subducting under each other. |
| Volcanic Arc | curved line of volcanoes, forms parallel to plate boundaries. |
| Transform Fault | tectonic plates slide horizontally from each other. |
| Fault Zone | pieces of fractured crust over a large fault |
| Folded Mountains | Large layers of rock whichh have folded over each other. |
| Fault-block Mountains | Parallel ridges form where blocks move up and down along faults |
| Uplifted mountains | large regions rise vertically, very little deformation |
| Plains | extensive area of rolling/level land |
| Basins | subsidence and low elevation |
| plateaus | flate regions with high elevation |
