Day, night, seasons

TermDefinition
Revolution The movement of Earth along its orbit around the Sun.
Ellipse Oval shape
Orbit The path an object takes around another object in space
Rotation The spin of the earth on its axis.
Axis An imaginary line around which the Earth rotates, which runs from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Day The time it takes for a planet to rotate once on its axis.
Year The time it takes for the Earth to revolve once around the Sun.
Leap Year A year with 366 days that occurs once every four years.
Seasons Periods of the year marked by specific weather patterns which are caused by the Earth's axial tilt.
Summer The season that occurs on the parts of the Earth which tilt towards the Sun.
Winter The season that occurs on the parts of the Earth which tilt away from the Sun.
Equinox Two days a year when there are 12 hours of daylight (equal lengths of day and night).
Solstice The longest or shortest day of the year, when the Sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky.
