Term | Definition |

Revolution | The movement of Earth along its orbit around the Sun. |
Ellipse | Oval shape |
Orbit | The path an object takes around another object in space |
Rotation | The spin of the earth on its axis. |
Axis | An imaginary line around which the Earth rotates, which runs from the North Pole to the South Pole. |
Day | The time it takes for a planet to rotate once on its axis. |
Year | The time it takes for the Earth to revolve once around the Sun. |
Leap Year | A year with 366 days that occurs once every four years. |
Seasons | Periods of the year marked by specific weather patterns which are caused by the Earth's axial tilt. |
Summer | The season that occurs on the parts of the Earth which tilt towards the Sun. |
Winter | The season that occurs on the parts of the Earth which tilt away from the Sun. |
Equinox | Two days a year when there are 12 hours of daylight (equal lengths of day and night). |
Solstice | The longest or shortest day of the year, when the Sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky. |
