TermDefinition
Active Transport The movement of molecules from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration with the use of energy. (CELLS MUST USE ENERGY)
Endocytosis (INTO) A cellular process in which external materials and substances are brought into the cell and the membrane surrounds the materials.
Phagocytosis Phagocytosis, or “cell eating”, is the process by which a cell engulfs a solid particle and digests it. (Intake of solids)
Pinocytosis A process by which liquid droplets are ingested by living cells (Intake of liquids)
Exocytosis (EXCRETE) A process for moving large molecules like cell waste vacuoles and gland secretions out of the cell through the cell membrane.
*Flagellum A microscopic hair-like organelle used by cells and microorganisms for movement. (LONG)
*Cilia Hair-like structures that extend from the cell body into the fluid surrounding the cell, which is responsible for the cell locomotion for eukaryotic cells. (Multiple short hairs)
Membrane-bound organelles Organelles that contain their own nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, vacuoles, and golgi apparatus.
