Ecosystem

TermDefinition
Ecosystem All of the living things in a given area together with the physical and chemical factors of the nonliving environment.
Organisms An individual living thing.
Populations All the organisms of the same species that live in the same area.
Community All the populations of different species that live in a given area.
Biosphere The highest level or organization in ecology that includes all parts of Earth where life exists.
Biotic Factor Living aspect of the environment.
Abiotic Factor Nonliving factor of the enviornment.
Producer Organism that can make their own food using energy from sunlight or inorganic chemicals.
Consumer Eats other organisms to get nutrients and energy.
Decomposer Breaks down tissues of dead organisms that other organisms can use.
