IV fluids

0.9% NS (Isotonic) good for low fluid volume deficit (hypotensive), Always used when giving blood
D5W (isotonic) 5% dextrose in water, used for energy, good for Hypernatremia & treating hypovolemia
D5.2NS ( Isotonic) Used for daily Maintenance
Ringers lactate (isotonic) combo of different lytes (lactate breaks down to Bi carb so it is used for acidosis
D10W (hypertonic) High dextrose & water good for hypoglycemia
3% NaCl (Hypertonic) Used to decrease cellular edema & hyponatremia. You must monitor lung sounds and watch for pulmonary edema.
D5.45NS (hypertonic) Used for 2nd day post op. Pulls out fluid that may be retained in the interstitial space. Helps promote renal function
0.45NS Good for client with normal BP But has Hypernatrima
