precipitation water that falls from the atmosphere and reaches the ground
humidity water vapor in the atmosphere
nimbo the prefix that is added to the names of some clouds to show that clouds produce precipitation
alto the prefix that is added to the names of some clouds to show that clouds are part of the middle altitude
hail raindrops that are pushed up over and over again into tall clouds and freeze before falling to the earth
sleet raindrops that freeze on their way to the earth and land as tiny ice pellets
snow ice crystals in the clouds that join together and fall to the earth
freezing rain raindrops that fall from warm air when the surface of the earth is below freezing, causing the raindrops to freeze as they hit the earth
rain water droplets in the clouds that join together to make larger drops
weather watch issued when conditions are right for a type of severe weather, but that severe weather is not currently happening
forecast a prediction of future weather conditions
weather warning issued when the storm has begun and people have reported seeing it
meteorologists scientists who study the atmosphere and weather
thunderstorm occurs when a large, swift-moving warm air mass meets a cold air mass
lightning static electricity that moves between clouds or between the clouds and the earth
thunder a rumble resulting from hot air instantly expanding and cooler air rushing in
tornado a funnel-shaped cloud of swirling winds that reaches down to the ground
