DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid a molecule that contains the information that determines the traits that a living thing inherits and needs to live.
Chromosomes made up of DNA and protein. In an early stage of cell division chromatin is compacted into these visible structures.
Cell Cycle life cycle of eukaryotic cell that includes interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis. Results in two identical daughter cells.
Interphase the part of the cell cycle during which the cell is not dividing. Cell grows about twice the size and DNA duplicates.
Mitosis the part of the cell cycle during which the nucleus divides. Results in two identical nuclei.
Cytokinesis the division of the parent cell’s cytoplasm. Begins during the last step of mitosis.
Homologous Chromosomes in body cells, most chromosomes are found in these pairs that have the same structure and size that carry the same genes.
Meiosis the type of cell division that produces haploid sex cells such as eggs and sperm cells.
Asexual Reproduction when one organism produces one or more new organisms that are identical to itself.
Sexual Reproduction when two parents each contribute a sex cell to the new organism. Half the genes in the offspring come from each parent. Most multicellular organisms.
