TermDefinition
Monosaccharide A single sugar molecule such as glucose or fructose, the simplest type of sugar.
Coenzyme Nonprotein organic molecule required for the activity of a particular enzyme.
Anabolism Metabolic pathways that construct molecules, requiring energy.
Hydrolysis Breaking down complex molecules by the chemical addition of water.
Active Site The part of an enzyme or antibody where the chemical reaction occurs.
Cofactor Small molecule or ion the that combine with an enzyme for activity.
Enzyme A type of protein that speeds up a chemical reaction in a living thing.
Amino Acids Building blocks of proteins.
Glycerol A three-carbon alcohol to which fatty acids are covalently bonded to make fats and oils.
Dehydration synthesis A chemical reaction in which two molecules covalently bond to each other with the removal of a water molecule.
Catabolism Metabolic pathways that break down molecules, releasing energy.
Fatty Acids chains of carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms.
Peptide Bond The chemical bond that forms between the carboxyl group of one amino acid and the amino group of another amino acid.
Metabolism All of the chemical reactions that occur within an organism.
Metabolic Pathways a series of enzymatic reactions that converts one biological material to another.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
