Mantle layer of Earth just below the crust
Core central region of a planet or moon
Crust surface layer of Earth containing the continents and seafloor
Hydrosphere layer of Earth containing the oceans, making up 70% of the surface
Atmosphere layer of gas held close to a planet or large moon's surface by the force of gravity
Magnetosphere zone of charged particles above the atmosphere trapped by a planet's magnetic field
Troposphere portion of Earth's atmosphere just above the surface where most weather occurs
Stratosphere layer of Earth's atmosphere above the troposphere but below the mesosphere, where the ozone layer is located
Mesosphere region of Earth's atmosphere above the stratosphere but below the ionosphere
Ionosphere Earth's highest atmospheric layer, which is significantly ionized and conducts electricity
Convection constant upwelling of warm fluid and downward flow of cooler material to take its place
Ozone Layer where UV solar radiation is absorbed by oxygen, ozone, & nitrogen in the stratosphere
Chlorofluorocarbons once widely used chemical that is extremely efficient at destroying ozone (a.k.a. CFC's)
Greenhouse Effect partial trapping of solar radiation by an atmosphere, like in a greenhouse
Greenhouse Gases efficiently absorb infrared radiation, such as CO2, methane & water vapor
Global Warming gradual increase in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere
Climate Change change in global/regional climate patterns
