Scientific Method

| Question | Answer |

| Scientific Method/Theory | A widely accepted step by step method of solving problems and investigating concepts. |
| Observation | To gather facts using our 5 senses and/or scientific tools |
| Qualitative Observation | An observation or description using details (no numbers) Ex: The man is tall. |
| Quantitative Observation- | An observation or description using numbers. Ex: There are 30 students in the class. |
| Inference | Conclusion or an assumption based on 1 or more observations. A logical explanation of an observation. |
| Purpose/Question/Problem- | The intention/reason of an experiment- why a scientist would do an experiment in the first place. |
| Research- | Gathering of facts about the topic you are studying |
| Hypothesis | An educated prediction based on research or prior knowledge. |
| Experiment- | How a scientist test their hypothesis |
| Measure | To calculate the size or amount using a specific tool (length, mass..) |
| . Analysis- | To study the data collected during an experiment. This part of the scientific method typically includes charts and graphs |
| Conclusion | The end or close of the experiment. The part where you reflect and answer your original question |
| Prediction- | To foretell the future or outcome before you test. |
| Theory | -A scientific explanation of a phenomena that is backed up with evidence, but could be proven wrong. |
