Cells and Celltheory

Animal, Plant cells, Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic and more!

QuestionAnswer
What is the first part of Cell Theory? All living organisms are made of cells.
What is the second part of Cell Theory? Cells are the basic unit of life/ organization of organisms.
What is the third part of Cell Theory? All cells come from pre-existing cells.
Who was the first person to observe living cells, when, and how? Anton Van Leeuwenhoek did in 1675 by looking at pondwater under a microscope.
Hans and Zacharias Jannssen did what in what year? in 1595 they put 2 magnifying glasses together to make the first compound microscope.
Observed a thin slice of cork and saw little boxes that he called cells. 1665 Robert Hooke
1838 he discovered that all plants are made of cells. Matthias Schleiden
Theodor Shwann did what in 1839? He studied animals and discovered that all animals are made of cells.
Rudolph Virchow did what in what year? In 1855 he discovered that all cells are made from pre-existing cells.
Flagellum belongs to... Prokaryotic cells
What type of cell has a nucleus? Eukaryotic
What is a type of Prokaryotic cells? bacteria
what is the DNA like in a Prokaryotic cell? It is circular and floats in cytoplasm
What type of cell is bigger? Eukaryotic
No membrane bound organelles are ... prokaryotic
Aerobic or anaerobic meaning.. some can live without oxygen and prokaryotic
What are the kinds of Eukaryotic cells? Animal, Plant, Protist, Fungi
has no nucleus prokaryotic
has membrane bound organelles eukaryotic
Only aerobic. most need oxygen to survive and eukaryotic
multicellular and unicellular Eukaryotic
where is DNA kept in Eukaryotic cells? the nucleus
only unicellular prokaryotic
Nucleus the brain of the cell, controls cell activities, holds the DNA
vacuole storage center for food water and waste
cytoplasm jelly-like substance that holds and protects the cells organelles
cell membrane controls movement in and out of the cell
mitochondria powerhouse of the cell because they release energy
Golgi body the amazon where it packages proteins and moves it throughout the cell.
Ribosomes These organelles build or synthesize proteins
lysosomes garbage man of the cell because they use enzymes to digest or break down biomolecules and worn down cell parts.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Passageway for movement around the cell smooth-does not have ribosomes rough-contains ribosomes
Only plant cells have... chloroplasts and cell walls
the cell wall does what... it supports the plant cell
