QuestionAnswer
Atmosphere -whole layer of air that surrounds the earth
Altitude -distance above sea level
Density -amount of mass in a given volume in a given substance
Cycles -a process that repeats over and over
Radiation -energy that travels across distances in the form of different types of rays
Conduction -the transfer of heat energy from one substance to the other by direct object
Troposphere -layer of atmosphere nearest to earth's surface
Stratosphere -layer above troposphere -clear and dry contains "ozone"
Mesosphere -thin air -layer above stratosphere
Thermosphere -top layer -less dense -becomes outer space when altitude rises
Ultraviolet radiation -has more energy than the light we can see -sound waves are too low for us to hear
Infrared radiation -has less energy than visible light -warms materials that absorb it
Ozone -made of three atoms of oxygen
Greenhouse effect -when the gases absorb and emit infrared radiation which keeps energy in the earths system for a while
Greenhouse gases -Carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, nutrios oxide, etc.
Air pollution -smoke and other harmful material that are added to the air
Particulates -tiny particles/droplets that are mixed with the air
Fossil fuels -fuels formed from the remains of prehistoric animals and plant
Smog -combination of smoke and fog
