| Blizzard | Strong winter storms with very cold temperatures, strong winds, and snow. The strong winds make everything look white, and it is hard to see. |
| Drought | A long period of time with no precipitation (rain or snow). Crops and plants dry up and die. A drought happens when it is very dry for a month or longer. |
| Flood | Caused by heavy rains or melting snow. Water drains into the rivers and streams, and they overflow covering areas it doesn't usually cover. Floods can wash away cars, bridges, and roadways. |
| Hurricane | Huge storms that form over the water. The middle of the hurricane is called the eye of the storm. When a hurricane hits land, it can destroy towns with their strong winds and flooding. |
| Thunderstorm | Small storms with wind, thunder, lightning, and rain. This kind of extreme weather happens when cool and warm air meet. Severe thunderstorms can cause flooding or tornadoes. Sometimes thunderstorms have hail, or small balls of ice that fall from the sky. |
| Tornado | Strong storm that forms funnel shaped clouds over land. A tornado twists rapidly and is also called a twister. The center of a tornado are strong and destroy anything in its path. |
