Pangaea All the continents were once part of a super-continent.
Continental drift The continents are in constant motion.
mid-ocean ridges The mountains ranges in the middle of the ocean
Seafloor spreading The process by new oceanic crust forms along mid-ocean ridge and the older crust moves away from the ridge
Normal polarity a state in which magnetized object will orient themselves to point North
Magnetic reversal the magnetic field reveres direction
Reversed polarity a state in which magnetized object will orient themselves to point South.The opposite of Normal polarity
Plate tectonics Earth's surface is made of rigid slabs of rock or plates, that move with respect to each other
lithosphere the cold and rigid outermost rock layer
transform plate boundary where two plates slide past each other
convergent plate boundary where plates collide
subduction the denser plate sinks below the more buoyant plate
convection the circulation of material caused by differences in temperature and density
ridge push moves the lithosphere in the opposite directions away from the mid-ocean range
slab pull as slabs sinks, it pulls on the rest of the plate with a force
divergent plate boundary where two plates separate
