Figurative Language

Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Figurative Figurative Language uses figures of speech to be more effective, persuasive , and impactful.
Literal Literal describes something as it's factual and true meaning.
Metaphor A metaphor comparisons between two unrelated things.
Smile Smile uses the words like and as to make a comparison.
Personification Personification is when human characteristics are given to something that is not human.
Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia is a word that inmates the sound of the object or action it refers to.
Alliteration Alliteration is when the beginning sound of the word is repeated.
Hyperbole A hyperbole is an exaggeration that cannot possibly be true .
Allusion Allusion is a reference to a person, Place, thing, book, or pop culture.
