SCIENCE UNIT 9 CHAPT. 2 - VOCABULARY QUIZ #2

QuestionAnswer
Stem the organ of a plant that hold the plant upright so the leaves face the sun.
Roots the organ of a plant that absorbs water & nutrients from the soil; anchors the plant.
Leaves the organ of a plant that makes food through the process of photosynthesis.
Flowers the organ of a flowering plant that helps the plant pollinate & reproduce.
Exoskeletons skeletons on the outside of an insect (ex- means outer); sound crunchy when you step on it.
Endoskeletons skeletons on the inside of the body, under skin & bones (humans, mammals, reptiles, birds, fish)
Heart the organ that is a muscle and pumps blood to the cells; humans have 4 chambered hearts.
Plasma the straw colored liquid of the blood that makes up most of the blood & transports nutrient.
Red Blood Cells (RBC) the smallest cells that contain oxygen.
White Blood Cells (WBC) fight infections, bacteria, viruses, and diseases.
Platelets blood cells that stick together and clot the blood when bleeding occurs.
Arteries blood vessels that transport blood with oxygen away from the heart to the cells, except 1 (pulmonary artery)
Veins blood vessels that transport blood with mostly carbon dioxide from the cells back to the heart, except 1 (pulmonary vein)
Capillaries the smallest blood vessels with very thin walls that transport blood with oxygen & carbon dioxide because they attach to arteries and veins.
Circulatory/Cardiovascular/ CVS System heart, blood vessels, blood cells, & blood; the transportation system responsible for movement of blood, wastes, oxygen, carbon dioxide.
Stomata openings/ pores on the underside of plant leaves that take in air.
Book Lungs spiders have these kind of lungs; the lungs are stacked like pages in a book to take up less space and provide greater surface area for oxygen.
