What is in a eukaryotic cell? membrane bound nucleus and organelles, single celled or multicellular
What is in a prokaryotic cell? no nucleus, no membrane bound organelles, and single celled
Where can you find eukaryotic cells? plants, animals, fungi, and protists
Where can you find prokaryotic cells? eubacteria and archaea
What is an elodea? freshwater plant used in aquaria, has chloroplast, and has a cell wall
What is an onion? terrestrial photosynthetic plant and has a cell wall
Classification for pseudopodia. Amoeba
Classification for cilia. Paramecium
Classification for flagella. Euglena
What is diffusion? movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
What is osmosis? movement of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from a high concentration of water to a low concentration of water
What is solvent? the gas or liquid in which a substance is dissolved
What is solute? substance that is dissolved in a gas or liquid
What is solution? homogeneous mixture of two or more substances
What is tonicity? measure of the concentration of solutes outside the cell relative to that inside the cell
What is hypertonic solution? solution that contains a higher concentration of solute outside of the cell than inside the cell
What is isotonic solution? solution that has the same concentration of solute as outside the cell
What is hypotonic solution? solution that contains a lower concentration of solute inside the cell than outside the cell
What are cheek cells? epithelial cells line cavities and exterior surfaces
What are protozoa? unicellular eukaryotic organisms
Elodea, onion, plants, cheek cells, and protozoa are... prokaryotic cells or eukaryotic cells? eukaryotic cells
What is the structure of the plant cells? have a cell wall, chloroplast, and a large central vacuole
What is the structure of the animal cells? does not have chloroplasts, no central large vacuole, and has a cell membrane but not a cell wall
What is nostoc? cyanobacterium (bacterium with chlorophyll) that is commonly found in "necklace-like" colonies
Nostoc is a .... prokaryotic cell or eukaryotic cell? prokaryotic cell
Which type of cell is more complex and which type of cell is less complex? Eukaryotic cells are more complex and prokaryotic cells are less complex
