QuestionAnswer
2 types of ways scientist can study the inner earth rocks with rock in them caused by high pressure, scientist can study these. earth quakes caused by the inner mantle, very weak when reach the surface but they can get information out of these.
crust shields, platforms, ocean crust, continental crust
mantle is 84% of the earth. constantly moving. three parts, lithosphere, asthenosphere, lower mantle.
core outer core causes magnetosphere, is made of iron and Nickle, cant be explored. outer core is liquid, inner core is hard doe to high pressure
lithosphere solid outer part of our planet/continental/oceanic
asthenosphere weaker, and denser then the lithosphere, Simi molten region
lower mantle hotter and denser than upper mantle, no ones ever seen the mantle
oceanic crust basalts, 3 miles thick at lowest point
continental crust granites, 45 miles at highest point
gases in the atmosphere 78% nitrogen, 20.9% oxygen, 0.9% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide
water vapor gaseous form of water in atmosphere
ozone a naturally formed area that protects the earth from uv light and radiation
troposphere first layer, provides oxygen, keeps earth at livable temperature, allows weather to occur
stratosphere ozone layer keeps harmful stuff from the sun away from earth, gets very hot.
mesosphere meteors get destroyed here, get very cold
thermosphere also absorbs harmful radiation, extremely hot, home to low orbit satellites
exosphere only layer that has definite shape, temperature ranges from 0 to 1700 degrease Celsius
altitude as altitude increases air pressure decreases which also decreases density, making it hard to breath oxygen.
air pressure pressure within the atmosphere of earth, also called atmospheric pressure
earth science body of knowledge about earth and its place in the universe
ideas scientists used to guide them structure of earths systems, earths history, earth in the Soler system
energy the ability to do work or cause change
earth systems/spheres biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere
biosphere all living things, plants humans animal
atmosphere all gases on the planet cover entire planet, clouds winds air, all 7 layers of atmosphere
hydrosphere water, rain, streams, ground moisture, all water on earth, ice fog
geosphere rock sand dirt the ground/nonliving things

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
