studyguide for the star notes

QuestionAnswer
what are nebula's known as/for ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. star ''nursery'', it forms stars and has a bunch of baby stars inside it. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
where do stars come from? *:・゚✧*:・゚ a bunch of gas and dust form together, like a nebula. *:・゚✧*:・゚
what is astrology? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. the study of stars ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
if you were a star what stage would you be at? *:・゚✧*:・゚ fusion ignition/main sequence *:・゚✧*:・゚
What's a protostar? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. a mini star inside of a nebula that is very very unstable, greater and lesser gravity, more atoms are gathering, attraction increases. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
whats equilibrium? *:・゚✧*:・゚ the battle between gravity and gas pressure. they are always changing. Equilibrium is when they are finally equal. *:・゚✧*:・゚
How is a star born? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. when a critical temperature point is reached and nuclear fusion begins. hydrogen begins fusing into helium. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
what even is a star?? *:・゚✧*:・゚ an extremely HOT ball of gas, with hydrogen fusing into helium in its core. they spend most of their lives fusing hydrogen. when the hydrogen is gone, it fuses helium into carbon. they are constantly trying to become equilibrium. *:・゚✧*:・゚
whats the main sequence? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. stars live out most of their life at this stage. they have achieved nuclear fusion, equilibrium, and radiate energy into space. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
what is our star? *:・゚✧*:・゚ average sized/main sequence *:・゚✧*:・゚
what are low mass stars? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. They are half the size of our sun, and like up to 80 or 100 billion years in main sequence. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
whats a red giant? *:・゚✧*:・゚ cycle after the main sequence, low mass and high mass, outer layers of the star expand. its core shrinks. *:・゚✧*:・゚
What's a planetary nebula? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. end of a ☾ low mass ☾ red giants life. outer layers of the star are expelled. the core is very hot and luminous. very bright colored gas clouds ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
whats a white dwarf? *:・゚✧*:・゚ low mass star, core of a planetary nebula. final stage of low mass stars, *:・VERY DENSE *:・゚ 350k times more gravity than earth changes colors as it cools. *:・゚✧*:・゚
whats a black dwarf? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. end product of a white dwarf. last stage of a stellar evolution for low mass stars, doesn't emit heat or light, its no longer a star. its dead ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
whats a high mass star? *:・゚✧*:・゚ 10 times as massive than our sun. stays in main sequence for 20 million years *:・゚✧*:・゚
whats a red super giant ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. same thing as a giant star but much much bigger, when it runs out of fuel it'll expand ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
whats a ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. supernova *:・゚✧*:・゚ last stage of a massive star's life. when a star runs out of nuclear fuel. the core is so heavy and cant stand its own gravitational weight. the core collapses and results in a giant explosion *:・゚✧*:・゚
whats a neutron star? ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆. the core after a supernova explosion. VERY VERY DENSE (1 teaspoon= 1 billion tons. oh my gah) gravity is 2 billion times earths gravity. protons and electrons combine neutrons ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆.
·:*¨༺ whats a black hole ༻¨*:·. ·:*¨༺ very massive star collapse. very strong gravitational pull. NOTHING can escape, not even light. ༻¨*:·.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
