Names and Functions of Lab Equipment

| Beaker | Glassware used to mix and heat substances |
| Graduated Cylinder | Used to measure the volume of liquids. Not for mixing or heating! |
| Triple Beam Balance | Measure the mass of an object |
| Ruler/Meter Stick | Measure length or distance |
| Test Tube | Glassware used to hold a small amount of a substance |
| Test Tube Holder | Used to hold one test tube |
| Test Tube Rack | Used to hold one or many test tubes |
| Beaker Tongs | Used to pick up a hot beaker |
| Bunsen Burner | Used to heat substances using a flame |
| Medicine Dropper/Pipette | Used to transfer only a few drops of liquid |
| Tweezers/forceps | Used to pick up or hold very small substances |
| Erlenmeyer Flask | Glassware with a narrow top used to mix and heat substances |
| Ring Stand | Base and pole used to attach clamps to hold items |
| Ring Clamp | A round circle shaped metal attached to ring stand to hold items |
| Test Tube Clamp | To a hold a test tube onto a ring stand for heating |
| Glass Stirring Rod | Used for stirring and made of glass to withstand heat, staining or corrosion |
| Wire Gauze | Placed on ring clamp to act as a shelf for a beaker and protect it from the flame |
| Test Tube Brush | Used to clean the inside of test tubes or other glassware. |
| Goggles | Protects the eyes |
