Author's Purpose the reason the author is writing
Persuade to convince the audience
Inform/Explain to tell about something
Entertain to capture the audience/tell a story
Express to express feelings (usually in poetry)
Point of view the way the author tells the story
1st Person told by one of the characters; "I", "me", "my"
2nd Person the narrator is speaking directly to the audience, "you" "your"
3rd Person told by an observer not a character; "he", "she", "they" or a characters name
Perspective the way one looks at something
Apostrophe used with nouns to show ownership or possession
Contraction a word or phrase that has been shortened by dropping one or more letters
Singular Noun names only one person, place or thing
Plural Noun names more than one person, place or thing
Pronoun words that take the place of a noun
Personal Pronoun the person speaking or writing
Relative Pronoun begins a subordinate clause and connect it to another idea in the same sentence (that, which, who, whom, whose)
