Nature of Science

TermDefinition
control a variable that is kept constant so that the impact of other factors in an experiment can be clearly understood
hypothesis a possible explanation for a set of observations
observation the act of using senses (sight, sound, touch, smell) to make sense of the world
science the study of the natural world
theory an explanation for a wide range of phenomenon that is supported by extensive evidence and observations
independent variable the factor that is manipulated in an experiment
dependent variable the factor that responds to some experimental condition
