Classify To sort or organize
Conclusion Summary of experimental results including lesson learned and limitations
Constant Factor that does not change in an experiment
Control Standard for comparison in an experiment
Data The facts, figures, and other evidence gained through observation
Dependent Variable What changes based on the independent variable, what is measured
Experiment A scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact
Gram Metric unit of mass
Hypothesis A possible explanation for a set of observations of an answer to a scientific question
Independent Variable What is being tested in an experiment, what I change
Inference An interpretation based on observation and prior knowledge
Length Measure of a distance between 2 points
Liter Metric unit of volume.
Mass A measure of how much matter is in an object
Meter Metric unit of length or distance
Metric System Measuring system based on the meter, liter, and gram
Observation Using all 5 senses to gather information
Prediction Forecast about a future situation
Scientific Method Step by step procedures of scientific problem solving; recognizing the problem, forming a hypothesis, testing the hypothesis, analyzing data and drawing conclusions
Temperature The average amount of energy of motion in the molecules of a substance.
Thermometer An instrument used to measure temperature, consisting of a thin, glass tube with a bulb on one end that contains a liquid (usually mercury or alcohol)
Volume Amount of space that an object occupies
