Poiseuille's Law Flow=Pressure/Resistance
Left ventricular systole occurs... slightly before right ventricular systole
Preload The degree of ventricular stretch befor the next contraction.
How is preload measured? By measuring the ventricular end pressures.
Frank-Starling Law When ventricular fibers are at maximal stretch, maximal cardiac output results.
The goal of many therapeutic interventions in critical care? Optimizing preload or ventricular filling.
Afterload The amount of resistance the ventricles must overcome to deliver the stroke volume into the receiving vasculature.
