| Estivation | prolonged torpor or dormancy of an animal during a hot or dry period |
| Vascular Plants | a plant that is characterized by the presence of conducting tissue |
| Nonvascular Plants | a simple, low-growing, nonflowering plant that lacks specialized conducting channels for transporting water and nutrients and in which the photosynthetic gametophyte is the dominant stage of the life cycle |
| Camouflage | an animal's natural coloring or form that enable it to blend in with its surroundings |
| Mimicry | the close external resemblance of an animal or plant (or part of one) to another animal, plant, or inanimate object. |
| Phototaxis | the bodily movement of a motile organism in response to light, either toward the source of light (positive phototaxis) or away from it (negative phototaxis) |
| Chemotaxis | movement of a motile cell or organism, or part of one, in a direction corresponding to a gradient of increasing or decreasing concentration of a particular substance |
| Habituation | innate response to stimulus is decreasing |
| Imprinting | (of a young animal) come to recognize another animal, person, or thing as a parent or other object of habitual trust. |

| Biodiversity | the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem |
| Carrying Capacity | the number of people, other living organism, or crops that region can support without environmental degradation. |
| Community | a group of interdependent organisms of different species growing or living together in a specified habitat |
| Conservation | prevention of wasteful use of a resource |
| Deforestation | the action of cleaning a wide area of trees |
| Ecology | the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organism to one another and their physical surroundings |
| Ecosystem | a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment |
| Eutrophication | excessive richness in a lake or other body of water, frequently due to runoff from the land, which causes a dense growth of plant life and death of animal life from lack of oxygen |
| Global Warming | a gradual increase in the overall temperature of earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants |
| Habitat | the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism |
| Innate Behavior | behavior that's genetically hardwired in an organism and can be performed in response to a cue without prior experience |
| Mutualism | symbiosis that is beneficial to both organisms involved |
| Parasitism | a nonmutual relationship between two organisms in which one benefits at the expense of the other |
| Symbiosis | interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both |
